Ruth Page Dance Center Costume Lead
Posting on behalf of current Production Manager, Sarah Lackner -
Ruth Page's The Nutcracker turns 60 this year, and most of the costumes are vintage if not original. The cast is about 115 folks (children and adults). Most adults have multiple roles, and some of the children's roles have multiple casts sharing a costume. Some fittings were started, but most have not happened and will need to be scheduled.
4 sets of performance weekends
Beverly Arts Center 11/21-22 (only responsible for this weekend)
Governors State University 12/4-7 (covered)
NEIU 12/11-14 (covered)
College of Lake County 12/18-21(covered)
Lead Costumer is responsible for fittings, leading repairs and alterations, mending or making replacement pieces, and wardrobe care during the run of the shows (currently only responsible for ONE show weekend, as listed above).
This includes overseeing the transport of the costume cases (additional overhires to move them), airing out the costumes, cleaning, etc.
The rate is sadly low. Administration is aware, but budgets were set to the current rate. I'm working on raises for the future, starting in the spring. The current rate is $25/hour for the lead. $20/hour for stitching/repairs team work. Payroll is every other week via Direct Deposit or check, on 1099.
There is an opportunity to extend into the rest of the Ruth Page Center season for spring and summer events. I can provide more info on that if folks are interested.
If you know of other folks who may be a good fit, please feel free to pass this along.
Let me know if you'd be interested.
